Oh snap! Has it been a month already? Welcome to the (Not) April Fools’ Day edition of Volume Units!
Our big news this month is a brand new release by electronic musician and producer ttwwrrss. The official release date is April 22, but you can get a copy of the album even earlier at the release party on Saturday April 19 at the Baltimore House (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada).
Speaking of releases, we’ve dug up the original multitrack masters of Showroom‘s shimmering pop anthem “Lonely Crowd” from the 2005 album The World Is Too Much With Us. Let me tell you, it was a real challenge transferring the wax cylinders to digital. Get ready for the release of “Lonely Crowd (moon:and:6 remix)” on April 15.
Paul Federici is competing in CBC’s Searchlight Competition! Right now, Paul is trying to make the Hamilton Regional Semi-Finals with his song “Strange Disease” from the album Now and Then. Have a listen, then visit Paul’s page on the CBC website to vote!
Mike Vial is traveling a lot this spring, road-testing some new songs. His Spring Tour 2014 schedule takes him across Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, and Tennessee.
I’m super excited to share shows with new friends, and introduce you to some great musicians I’ve met last year – including Chris Dupont, Frances Luke Accord, and Rob McHale. I hope we can cross paths while I’m traveling! –MV
Mike will also be speaking at the Ann Arbor Music Con 2014 at the University of Michigan in April. He’ll be talking to musicians and songwriters about how he made the career leap from being an English teacher to being a full-time musician.
Darry Webster (aka OLD KID) is back from his Pride in Travel tour visiting Manchester City supporter’s clubs around the world. Last month’s leg of the tour included stops in London, Gibraltar, Reykjavík, and Abu Dhabi. He’s writing a book about it (due out in October 2014).
Closing out this month’s newsletter is Darryl’s video snapshot of Gibraltar, featuring the song “Watching Planes” from the OLD KID EP. Enjoy!
