Volume Units: June 2014

Grab a mojito and enjoy the June 2014 edition of Volume Units, your monthly guide to what’s going on at Maisonneuve Music!

The latest album by ttwwrrss debuted at lucky #7 on the electronic charts at CFRC 101.9 MHz in Kingston. The album has been gaining momentum on Canadian college radio from Vancouver to Montreal, with spins on great shows like Le Programme (CISM), The Anatomy Lesson (CFRC) and The Vampire’s Ball (CiTR).

[Tired of hearing the same 25 songs on commercial radio? There are thousands of passionate DJs and programmers promoting musical diversity and innovation on college radio! We use TuneIn to discover the best new music on campus radio stations across North America.—Ed.]

Speaking of innovation, moon:and:6 recently teamed up with ttwwrrss to produce “Janguru City,” a reinterpretation of the track “Jungle” by ttwwrrss. The word “Janguru” is Japanese for “Jungle”—and the video features a montage of stunning Tokyo cityscapes shot in alternating time-lapse and slowmo:

After months of global wandering and a new round of OLD KID songs to share, Darryl Webster has finally returned home to Canada. He recently started preproduction for his new album, which will feature the new song “Yorkshire Lady”—a gorgeous secular hymn with a lilting melody and gentle guitar fingerpicking.

Paul Federici is touring Western Canada this month, with stops across the prairies and on the West Coast. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor unexpected Trans Canada highway closures stays this roving troubadour from his gigs!

“So they decided to shut part of the Trans Canada highway down for a few days (I’m assuming they knew I was coming…) which forced me to take the VERY scenic route resulting in back to back 11 hour driving days—but damn it I made it to Kenora!!!” —PF

Of Gentlemen and Cowards will be sharing the stage with CBC Searchlight finalists Fitness Club Fiasco later this week at Toronto’s iconic concert venue Sneaky Dee’s. Their gig kicks off a series of summer performances across Ontario. If you haven’t yet caught their energetic live show, you’re missing out! The boys have also been writing a ton of new material—expect a new release announcement in the coming months…

Finally, Mike Vial recently stopped by Hamilton on his way to a recent gig in Western New York. Mike wraps up his Spring Tour this month with a final stop in Eaton, Ohio on June 21. You can also catch Mike at one of his many summer festival gigs. Check out our interactive Google Map to find out when your favourite Maisonneuve Music artist will be playing near you!
