Old Kid is the moniker of Toronto-based songwriter Darryl Webster, formerly the frontman of rock act Sunriser. Now he’s penning top-notch somber Canadiana acoustic ballads, which has thoroughly impressed the likes of the National Post’s Dave Bidini. After a five-year gap since the last Old Kid EP, he’s set to return with This Echo, a four-track set due April 28 through Hamilton label Maisonneuve Music. Early cut “Yorkshire Lady” is a gorgeous preview of what’s to come, driven by sparse piano and gentle guitar fingerpicking, further revealing his sharp songwriting talents.
For more proof of Webster’s storytelling abilities, pick up a copy of his book Pride in Travel, a chronicling of his 70,000 km trip around the world.
Old Kid will play an EP release show in Hamilton ON at Artword Artbar on May 1. Head to Facebook for more info.
