New Release: “Marth” by Emilio Bonito

Released on Hamilton-based indie label Maisonneuve Music, Emilio Bonito‘s debut single “Marth” fuses acoustic fingerstyle guitar with avant-garde, indie folk and pop culture influences. “Andy McKee, Don Ross, and Antoine Dufour are a few obvious influences,” explains Emilio. “But I was also listening to a wide range of other music while writing these songs – avant-garde metal, progressive rock, indie folk, even psychedelic pop. Everything from maudlin of the Well and The Mars Volta to Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.”

“Marth” crafts its moody narrative with changing dynamics, tempos and time signatures. “We chose the song ‘Marth’ as a debut single because it’s such a great introduction to Emilio’s songwriting and performance style,” explains producer/engineer moon:and:6 (Whitehorse, Royal Wood, Sarah McLachlan). “We wanted to pay homage to other fingerstyle guitarists such as Andy McKee, without being a carbon copy of their playing or production styles.”

“We started by capturing a single take solo performance,” he explains. “Then we experimented with unusual combinations of reverbs and subtle modulation effects. This added an atmospheric backdrop to the guitar without using other instruments. The result is minimalist and complex at the same time.”

“Marth” by Emilio Bonito is available on May 11, 2015 on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Bandcamp and more.
