Launched in 2014, Maisonneuve Music is a Hamilton, Ontario, Canada-based independent record label.
Maisonneuve Music’s vision is help develop and support new entry-level and emerging artists in an increasingly complex music business landscape.
“In French, the word ‘Maisonneuve’ translates roughly to ‘new house,’” explains founder Kathleen Farley. “Maisonneuve serves as a home base for new entry-level artists whose work often crosses genre boundaries. We help these artists connect with audiences by taking a leaner, more agile approach to music production, distribution and marketing.”
2015 was a banner year for the fledging indie label, starting with the release of ttwwrrss_2, a bold cross-genre showcase of glitch hop, future beats and dark industrial synthpop by Hamilton electronic/hip hop producer ttwwrrss. Released in January 2015, the album peaked at #1 across Canada on college radio and drew rave reviews. Hamilton music blog Cut From Steel praised the album, noting that “pairing up with Hamilton’s Maisonneuve Music label has proved to be a great decision for ttwwrrss.” Steve Marlow (CFBX Radio) described the album as “a tense powerhouse of remarkably forward looking electronica,” proclaiming “this might be the most interesting and engaging electronic album of 2015.”
The label scored another indie hit in 2015 with James Wyatt Crosby’s debut single, “O.T.O.T.W.”, a catchy dream pop song whose lush, grand-scale production belied its lo-fi DIY ethos. The indie pop artist’s follow-up single, “Wild Dog”, released on April 18, was featured by Spotify on their “Fresh Finds” tastemaker playlist. The song has been streamed over 100,000 times during its first month of release.
Canadian producer/engineer moon:and:6, signed to Maisonneuve Music as an artist in his own right, released the post-rock single “Launch Sequence A” in the summer of 2015. The track was swiftly picked up by drum sample company Analogue Drums to demonstrate their flagship Big Mono vintage kit.
Maisonneuve’s latest signing is Burlington-based alt-folk/dreampop artist Lainee, whose debut EP Rally the Troops will be released on May 30, 2016. Other recent releases include: ttwwrrss_3 by ttwwrrss (February 29), “Midnight Runner” by Emilio Bonito (March 14) and This Service / The Fire and Disguise by Toui Manikhouth (April 4).
