Exospheres by Hamilton, Canada-based composer and multi-instrumentalist SØLYS (Michael Chambers) is an intimate and melodic suite of four pieces that explore two piano motifs. Inspired by the variations within Erik Satie’s Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, and using contemporary neo-classical sounds reminiscent of Ólafur Arnalds and Max Richter, Exospheres is perfect for reading, studying, or whenever you need a mental break.
I’ve always been fascinated by the way our planet exists in the vacuum of space. The exosphere is the outer layer of our atmosphere almost indistinct from space itself. When creating Exospheres I was thinking about a journey to the edge of space, and the ride home again. I was inspired by Erik Satie’s Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes suites, and aimed to execute something similar in the spirit of contemporary and neo-classical composers like Ólafur Arnalds and Max Richter.
