“Floating” by Hamilton, Canada-based composer and multi-instrumentalist SØLYS (Michael Chambers) is a quiet, melancholic yet hopeful introspective piano piece. The reverberant solo piano is supported by a lush organic pad that swells in and out throughout the song.
On a recent trip back to the small town where I grew up, I was reminded about the places I can never go back to. All the schools I attended have been torn down and rebuilt. The old turn-of-the-century library building has been completely gutted and renovated. It’s a bittersweet feeling knowing those places exist only as memories now. For me, “Floating” expresses those feelings between nostalgia and melancholy – a place in my mind where I feel both longing and comfort. –Michael Chambers (aka SØLYS)
