“Sea of Tranquility” by Hamilton, Canada-based composer and multi-instrumentalist SØLYS (Michael Chambers) is an intimate and haunting suite of three pieces. Each track, named after historic lunar landing sites, evokes profound feelings of isolation and introspection. Dark, melancholic melodies intertwine with ethereal synth pads and reverse delays, transporting listeners to a weightless realm of cosmic solitude. This EP captures the haunting beauty of the moon’s desolate terrains, offering a mesmerizing journey through space and emotion.
Since I was a child I’ve been fascinated with lunar landscapes. “Sea of Tranquility” serves as a personal exploration of isolation, introspection, and the captivating allure of the cosmos. I imagined what it must feel like to be truly isolated from the bustling life of our planet. Each track is named after iconic lunar landing site. I imagined myself in the lunar orbiter looking down on the moon’s desolate terrains. I felt the weight of solitude, the profound sense of being alone in a vast, indifferent universe, and the beauty that arises from that isolation. –Michael Chambers (aka SØLYS)
