“sorry, mary :(” by Hamilton, Canada-based producer and multi-instrumentalist [zoethecat] is a laid-back, chillhop-inspired lofi track based around a jazzy chord progression, mellow lead guitar, and samples from a 1940s “interactive” educational film attempting to train teenagers to negotiate with their parents. Filled with nostalgic imagery and vintage sounds, it’s a trip back in time. The perfect soundtrack for chilling, studying, or just relaxing.
Sometimes I get lost watching public domain videos at archive.org (maybe I need another hobby!) I ran across this video called “You and Your Family,” a film from the 1940s attempting to train teenagers to negotiate with their parents. Watching the film, I realized how much some things haven’t changed in the past 70 years – as campy as “sorry, mary” may sound, I think people any age can empathize with Mary. The jazzy chords and mellow guitar melody really add to the nostalgic feeling of this track. I hope you enjoy! –Michael aka [zoethecat]
