“waves” by Hamilton, Canada-based producer and multi-instrumentalist [zoethecat] is a laid-back, chillhop-inspired track based around a flowing guitar riff over a backdrop of waves lapping up on a beach on Lake Muskoka in “cottage country” just north of Toronto. These very Western sounds are then mixed with the Eastern sounds of Tibetan peace bowls and Indian sitar. The unique combination of instruments provides a soundscape for introspection and nostalgia. It’s a perfect backdrop for chilling, studying, or just relaxing.

I love the freeing sound of sitting on a beach just listening to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore. I recorded the waves last summer on a trip to my family cottage north of Toronto. Perhaps it was thinking of family that inspired the intro guitar riff (a tip of the hat to my dad’s band’s 1973 hit single “Shelly Made Me Smile”).
