A neo soul vocalist and multi-instrumentalist embarking on her career as a solo artist, Toronto-based Shannon Chapman‘s debut single “What You Do” is a feel-good, mid-tempo neo-soul jam with nods to ’90s R&B.
Shannon’s brand of neo soul features lush and satisfying jazz harmony, straightforward lyrics, and sing-along-able horn lines reminiscent of her influences Steely Dan, Moonchild, and Icelandic soul group Moses Hightower. However, Shannon embraces her sweet, clear voice and background as a saxophonist and pianist in a way that is uniquely her own.
After opening for the smooth and hypnotic L.A. neo soul trio Moonchild, Shannon has focused her efforts on writing and self-producing her upcoming solo releases in partnership with Maisonneuve Music.
