“Ascension” by Hamilton, Canada-based composer and multi-instrumentalist SØLYS (Michael Chambers) is a serious yet uplifting atmospheric piece centered around a simple piano motif. The piano is supported by a rich atmosphere of ambient guitar swells and lush synth pads. The perfect backdrop for studying or deep concentration.
With “Ascension” I wanted to take the listener on a journey – a journey into their own nostalgia, their own memories. The first part of the piece is the start of the trek – slow and a little dark. But suddenly, there’s a burst of light and the song opens to match the brightened mood.
